Healing Our Core Issues
-A Developmental and Relational Trauma Treatment Model
Healing Our Core Issues (HOCI) Model
(Pronounced Hawk-eye)
Healing Our Core Issues Model is all about discovering our true self and learning to foster healthy relationships, both within ourselves and with those around us. Life experiences leave an imprint on our nervous system that will continue to impact our daily lives and relationships until we develop our awareness in order to begin the healing process.
HOCI is a developmental and relational trauma (DART) therapy. In this model, we must broaden our definition of trauma. In her Post Induction Therapy, Pia Mellody defines trauma as “anything less than nurturing.” As each person looks back at their life, they are likely able to identify moments that were less than nurturing. The imprint these experiences leave on our nervous system, can determine how we function today. If those traumas were not processed in a healthy manner with the guidance of a empathetic witness/functional adult, they became trapped, wreaking havoc on our minds and our bodies. (Peter Levine)
The HOCI model integrates numerous powerful therapeutic approaches to help clients dig deep, find their true self and discover a healing they likely didn't even think was possible. This model teaches 6 core issues that shape the relationship we have with ourselves and how we interact relationally. By understanding and finding balance in these areas, we gain power and control in our healing process.
HOCI is an eclectic model which incorporates influences from many therapeutic approaches such as Core Issues Work (Pia Mellody), Mindfulness (John Kabat Zinn), Body Based Neurobiology (Stephen Porges, Peter Levine, Pat Ogden) and Attachment theory (John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth).
